Over 300 waiters took part in National Waiters Day yesterday with the aim of being crowned the ‘Fastest Waiter’ or ‘Fastest Waitress’ in the industry.

The winners were:

Fastest Waiter- Alex Radmore from Limewood Hotel, New Forest
Fastest Waitress- Branwen Summers from Joe’s Southern Kitchen, Covent Garden
Fastest Team- Premier Inn, Kings Cross
Best Dressed- Galvin Restaurants

National Waiters Day was designed to celebrate the excellence, dedication, hard work and discipline of all 2.5 million people working in the hospitality industry in the UK, and inspire others to consider the range of dynamic and vibrant careers in the industry.

The National Waiters Day initiative is supported and co-ordinated by The Springboard Charity alongside key sponsors: BaxterStorey, Bunzl Catering Supplies, Zenith Hygiene and ISS. The funds raised from the initiative go towards enabling Springboard to develop and run a programme for schools to encourage young people to consider a career in front of house.

The brains behind the concept Fred Sirieix commented: “The idea behind National Waiters Day is to bring a spotlight to the hospitality industry and showcase what a great range of exciting careers the industry has to offer, whilst having a lot of fun in the process”.

Anne Pierce, CEO at Springboard said: “It was a fantastic event and one that captured people’s imagination. It perfectly embodied the professionalism, and dedication of those in the hospitality industry.  The National Waiters day initiative is a great way to promote our industry and encourage people into the dynamic and vibrant range of careers within hospitality.”

A student’s race was held prior to the Waiters Race with students from a number of London colleges participating in the race.
