The countdown has begun for the 2014 South Asian Chef Competition (SACC), giving chefs with talent and flair, time to take up the challenge.

Organisers of the SACC, now in its 10th year, are once again looking for professional chefs nationwide to put their creative skills to the test and develop a selection of innovative South Asian dishes, using their own original recipes, in order to win the coveted title of UK South Asian Chef 2014.

A panel of chef judges represented by the Craft Guild of Chefs, the catering industry and the education sector will assess the skills of the competitors.

Andrew Green, Craft Guild of Chefs vice president and chairman of judges, explained: “We are looking for chefs who can show their skill and passion in this ever-growing market.

“The Asian food industry is as buoyant as ever, producing some of the greatest food made by some of the most talented chefs in the country, and this contributes to the British economy. Gone are the days of just ‘popping down the road for a curry’ – we are seeing some of the best plates of food around. There is just so much talent out there.”

The final will be held on October 20 at the International Food & Travel Studio, which is part of Bradford College.

The rewards include a first prize of £2,000, membership of the Craft Guild of Chefs, runner up receiving £1,000 and second runner up £750, plus two further special prizes each of £100 for the most innovative dish and health-conscious dish. In addition, each finalist will receive:

• £50 towards the cost of ingredients
• Two nights’ accommodation for two people pre-final
• Two places at the pre-final dinner, where they will get the chance to meet the judges and other competitors
• Two places at the gala awards dinner being held at The Royal Armouries in Leeds, where up to  1,000 guests are expected to attend
• Certificates and medals
