Sous chef at Hilton Dunkeld hotel praised for work with the unemployed

Written by: Admin
Kenny Black, sous chef at Hilton Dunkeld House hotel, will be presented with a Light and Warmth Award this summer for the hard work he carried out last year in aiding four young people who had been out of work, back into full time employment.
Black was heavily involved in the 'Quick to the Cut' chef training programme. He became a mentor to the four candidates on the course, who all managed to secure full time employment as commis chefs on its completion. The award is a global recognition for Hilton employees who champion best practice and exceptional performance. The intense 'Quick to the Cut' kitchen apprenticeship scheme was aimed at those at high risk of unemployment and allowed each candidate to obtain their level two chef's qualification in just 12 weeks instead of the normal two year college course. As well as winning the award, Black will be presented with $10,000 from Hilton Worldwide headquarters in McLean, Virginia, near Washington D.C. Black said: "I was honoured that my colleagues chose to nominate me for the award and was delighted when I was notified by our global head quarters that I would be one of the recipients. "This was a fantastic project to work on and I was delighted that we managed to help these young people build their skills base as well as overcome personal barriers which were preventing them from gaining employment." Liam Thompson, human resources officer at Hilton Dunkeld House, who nominated Black for the award, added: "Kenny is very self-motivated and takes great pride in what he does."
