The search is on to find Britain’s best catering sausage for 2014

More than 230 of the nation’s catering sausages have been sampled by a team of industry experts and whittled down to just 15, in a bid to find Britain’s best catering sausage for 2014.

With sausages served at more than half a billion out-of-home meal occasions annually and more than 500 sausage varieties available, the BPEX Foodservice Pork Sausage of the Year Competition gives caterers the opportunity to highlight the diverse range of quality assured and Red Tractor sausages available today in foodservice outlets.

The final 15 will now go forward to the grand final at Butchers’ Hall on 31 October 2014, where one will be crowned ‘Overall Champion’ – marking the start of British Sausage Week 2014 (3-9 November).

BPEX foodservice trade manager, Tony Goodger, said: “With an exceptionally high level of good quality sausages entered into this year’s competition, it’s clear to see that when it comes to putting sausages on the menu, the catering sector delivers on both flavour and quality. The competition provides the ideal platform for caterers to promote premium and speciality sausage varieties as well as encouraging creativity in the kitchen.”
