Bains ‘pioneering approach’ to food with a particular focus on the ‘intense combinations of flavours’ has seen him rise up the rankings to the number one slot.

Simon Rogan has three restaurants in the top 100 - L’Enclume (3), The French (30) and Fera (44). Tom Sellers’ Story ranked 14th, Heston Blumenthal’s Fat Duck ranked 31st, and Lee Wescott’s Typing Room ranked 62nd.

Harden’s, which recently published its own London Restaurant Guide, helped to compile the list, which saw 63,000 diner reports submitted to produce the Top 100.

The most expensive restaurant on the list is sushi restaurant Araki in London (9th) which costs £360 per person, whilst the cheapest on the list is the Applecross Inn in Scotland (75th) which costs £41 per person.
