River Cottage HQ gears up for Craft Guild of Chefs Universal Cookery & Food Festival 2014

Written by: Admin
Chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s River Cottage HQ in Axminster in Devon will host the Craft Guild of Chefs’ third Universal Cookery & Food Festival, which takes place on September 24.

This year’s one-day festival will give delegates the chance to book places on River Cottage’s farm tours so that they will see at first-hand its holistic and self-sustaining approach.

The ever popular foraging tours will also run throughout the day as well as demonstrations and talks by leading chefs and industry experts. The large farmers’ market will also return with a mix of international suppliers and local producers showcasing their latest culinary innovations and fresh produce.

The festival line-up includes Cyrus and Pervin Todiwala and Paul Cunningham with more names to be released over the coming weeks.

The Todiwalas are the first of three pairs of chefs for the ‘Keeping it in the family’ theme. The topic will see chefs who are related come together to talk about finding the balance between family life and work while one chef from each pair cooks up their favourite dish.

Paul Cunningham, who delivered a spectacular demonstration in the first festival’s line-up, will be taking over the venue's yurt in his own distinctive way. Another familiar face will be the HQ’s group head chef Gill Meller, who appears regularly on the Channel 4 River Cottage series.

Craft Guild representatives Lee Maycock, John Feeney and Ian Nottage are again driving this event, which is designed to bring chefs, caterers, farmers and suppliers together.

Maycock said: “We have all seen the campaigns run by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall over the past few years. These hard-hitting campaigns combined with River Cottage’s self-sustaining farms and passion for seasonal, local produce makes it the perfect match for this year’s Universal Cookery & Food Festival and we are delighted to be able to take you to this fantastic venue.”

Registration is open and tickets cost £99 + VAT for Craft Guild members and £199 + VAT for non-members. To book a ticket, visit www.cookeryandfoodfestival.co.uk. For more information about the festival, call 01293 854403 or email [email protected].
