Pidy introduces pastry challenge for catering students

Written by: James Callery
Belgian based pastry manufacturer, Pidy, has launched a new challenge for UK catering and hospitality students.

The 'Revamp the Vol au vent’ challenge invites students to give the small hollow case of puff pastry a make over using at least one of three Pidy products specified to create a dish suitable for a hotel menu.

A panel will then judge the menu concepts and choose the eight best entries who will all be invited to attend a Grand Final Cook-Off, taking place at The Claire Clark Pastry Academy at Milton Keynes College, on 7 December.

The live cook-off final will take place in front of industry professionals, including international pastry chef and previous judge on BBC’s Bake-Off Crème de la Crème, Claire Clark MBE.

The winner will be awarded the prestigious ‘Vol-au-vent’ trophy, a lunchtime meal for two at Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons & £200 worth of catering vouchers.

Robert Whittle, general manager at Pidy UK, said: “It’s our aim to inspire and encourage the students to really push themselves to the limits, developing a fantastic dish they can be proud of.

“We want this to be a great learning experience but also a fun opportunity to see what they can create from a specific brief. We are thrilled for the opportunity to support them and see what they can do with our products.”

To enter, students need to request samples by 25 September with a 6 November closing date for entries.
