Nuno Mendes has launched a £1.75 million crowdfunding effort to fund his newest restaurant, Viajante.

The chef, whose trendy Chiltern Firehouse was shortlisted for the Craft Guild’s New Restaurant of the Year, believes the Metropolitan Wharf in Wapping is the ideal setting to launch the new concept.

Mendes is seeking investment of £1.75 million with 33.33% equity offered on crowdfunding wesbite Seedrs. The pitch has already raised over £85,000 with 59 days still remaining.

The 66-cover site, 38 covers in the main dining room, 12 covers on the chefs table and a further 16 in a private room, will operate from Monday to Sunday for lunch and Monday to Saturday for dinner. Per head spend will cost around £50-£60 for lunch and £120-£140 for dinner.

The dining experience will include a tasting menu bringing ‘wave after wave of breathtaking tastes and textures’.

Mendes wants Viajante to be awarded multiple Michelin stars and places in the ‘best restaurants’ lists but in a location which is not yet known for its fine dining scene.

The pitch reads: “Viajante aims to be at the forefront of the hospitality industry, fostering an exchange of learning and innovation among its team and providing a platform for rising chefs to learn and explore new techniques.

“Nuno intends to invite renowned guest chefs from all over the world to cook one-off dinners with him, allowing diners to be transported around the world without leaving East London.”
