Nottingham Restaurant and Bar Awards celebrate independent operators, including Guild member Sat Bains

Nottingham Restaurant and Bar Awards last week (31 January) celebrated independent restaurants, bars, pubs and gastro pubs across the county at its annual ceremony held at Colwick Hall Hotel (Nottingham.)

Hosted by TV personality Mark Durden-Smith, there were fifteen awards up for grabs (including best new restaurant, best cocktail and best front of house restaurant team) – 11 of which were voted for by the public and four by the panel of judges comprising food and drink journalists, critics and hospitality experts.

 

After a month-long vote, the organisation received over 49,000 public entries, which saw the following companies celebrated after judges delivered the final decision:

 

  • Critics’ Choice: Sat Bains (National Chef of the Year judge and longstanding Guild member)
  • Nottingham Restaurant of the Year: Bar Iberico
  • Best Young Talent, Back of House: Callum Dovey, Iberico World Tapas
  • Best Kept Secret: Lost Property 
  • Best New Restaurant (opened March 2016 – August 2017): Sexy Mamma Love Spaghetti
  • Best New Pub, Bar or Gastro Pub (opened March 2016 – August 2017): The Railway at Lowdham
  • Best Restaurant Chain: Wagamama
  • Best Design: Bar Iberico
  • Best Gastro Pub: The Ruddington Arms
  • Best Young Talent, Front of House Winner: Daiva Steponaviciute - La Rock, Sandiacre
  • Best Cocktail: World Service (Pina Kol-Lided)
  • Best Bar or Pub: Hockley Arts Club
  • Best Independent City Restaurant: Iberico World Tapas
  • Best Independent Out of Town Restaurant: Tom Browns
  • Best Front of House Restaurant Team: Memsaab

           

 

Judge and London Evening Standard columnist, Tim Cooper said: "I was blown away by the nightlife scene in Nottingham, and its secret watering holes waiting to be discovered - though, judging by the crowds, and the queues outside, the secret is already out.”
