Jersey and Guernsey announce their teams for the Inter Island Chefs' Muratti culinary showdown

Written by: Admin
Two teams from Jersey and Guernsey are gearing up for the first Craft Guild of Chefs' Inter Islands Challenge that takes place from October 22-23 in the newly refurbished kitchens at High College's Academy of Culinary Arts in Jersey.
Each team includes at least one catering student to reflect the importance the Craft Guild places on passing culinary skills on to the next generation. They will be tasked with creating a five course menu plus canapés from a mystery basket of items donated by local suppliers, and will be given their list of ingredients one week prior to the competition. They will then have 24 hours to produce a creative winning menu which, once completed, cannot be changed. The winner will take home the Peter Queree trophy, named after the former head of catering at Highlands College Jersey who recently passed away. Queree, a true culinary great and longstanding Craft Guild member, had many links with both islands. During the two night event the teams will have to impress a discerning group of diners, including a judging panel of top London chefs: Henri Brosi, executive chef at The Dorchester; Paul Gayler, executive chef at the Lanesborough Hotel; and Andrew Bennett, executive chef and food and beverages manager at the Sheraton Park Lane Hotel. The winning team will be announced at the second dinner on Tuesday, October 23. The future of the Inter Island Muratti is set to be full of opportunities for chefs and the hospitality industry. The annual event will continue to bring together chefs of all ages and abilities, while the long standing friendly rivalry between the two islands is guaranteed to create two show stopping evenings. • The Craft Guild of Chefs in Jersey is always on the lookout for local businesses that would like to get involved.
