The 36-year-old beat off over 10,000 entrants from across the world to win the competition set up in 1991 by chef and restaurateur, Tommy Miah (no relation).

Milon Miah won over the judges with his selection of potato-based dishes and venison main during the finals held earlier this month.

Princess Anne presented Miah with his award at an awards dinner on 10 October at the ILEC Conference Centre, West London.

Miah said: “Winning this really means a lot to me – it is the ultimate competition in the Indian hospitality scene.I was up against some amazing finalists whose dishes will have no doubt astounded the judges.

"It is fantastic to see how much talent there is out there – the Indian culinary scene should be celebrated given its contribution to British culture, and the competition does just that.”

Shanker Pandey, from the Everest Inn, Ashford came runner-up, with Manish Chancha, from Moksh Indian Restaurant, Cardiff finishing third.
