Hospitality industry urged to back skills training

Hospitality businesses can boost their future profits and long term financial security by engaging with skilled young people available to join their workforce at the nation’s largest skills and careers event, according to a careers chief.

Ross Maloney, Chief Executive of new organisation Find a Future is looking forward to bringing together the country’s flagship skills and careers experiences at the The Skills Show to inspire young people about the world of work.

The Skills Show will be held at The NEC in Birmingham from 13-15 November and will showcase a broad range of vocational sectors to an expected audience of 75,000 young people.

He said:” By supporting The Skills Show, employers in the hospitality sector have a great opportunity to interact with highly capable, enthusiastic young people either as sponsors or exhibitors at the event.”

“Skilled young people can make all the difference to a business’ bottom line, helping organisations to flourish, while safeguarding longer term growth and business security.

“Young people have so much potential yet many businesses fail to engage with them directly, missing out on the opportunity to interact with, and recruit, future talent.”

In association with The Skills Show, recent research by The Association of Colleges identified direct interaction with business as a priority wish for young people when seeking a new career.

The three day event will host a programme of more than 80 Spotlight talks allowing young people to hear directly from, and be inspired by, those working in their chosen professions. Young people will also be encouraged to try “bite-sized” hands-on experimental activities across a broad range of careers to discover what they enjoy and explore further education, skills and Apprenticeships.

Maloney added: “ A well balanced and diverse skills mix is essential for a healthy workforce, and we are committed to providing employers with direct access to a talented pool of future employees.”
