Final eight in the running for top young chef's award

The eight finalists for this year's Young National Chef of the Year competition, run by the Craft Guild of Chefs, have been announced.
Contenders come from across the industry working everywhere from a Channel Islands hotel to the House of Commons. The winner will be presented with the accolade at the Restaurant Show at Earls Court 2, London, on Tuesday 11th October. Young National Chef of the Year is open to 18-23 year old chefs who work in any sector of the industry, from hotels, restaurants and pubs to universities and contract catering. The competition is run in partnership with Lockhart Catering Equipment, Unilever's largest brand, KNORR, global leader in professional appliances Electrolux and Churchill China. The Young National Chef of the Year 2011 finalists are: • Glen Noel – The Atlantic Hotel, Ocean Restaurant, Jersey • Brendan Baxter – Restaurant 23 Warren Point, Northern Ireland • Rositsa Nikolova – House of Commons • Charles Smith – Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley, London • Andrew Postlethwaite – Castle Green Hotel, Kendal • Garret Keown – The Bell Inn, Horndon-On-The-Hill • Dimitair Angelkouski – Turnberry Resort, Ayrshire • Emily Webb – Royal Garden Hotel, London As well as the title of Young National Chef of the Year 2011, the worthy winner will also receive the following: Courtesy of Churchill China: A trip to Dubai to experience the innovation and daring the city embraces as it fuses international influences into a harmony of luxury and cutting edge hospitality. The prize would include flights, accommodation and board for five days at the Emirates Hospitality Academy part of the Jumeirah Group. The prize would include work experience at three different venues and depending on timings there is an opportunity to co-ordinate visit during the Gulfood Chef competition.
