Electrolux Chef Academy 2013 competition for students supported by top chefs

Written by: Admin
Electrolux Professional has launched the Electrolux Chef Academy 2013 competition to nurture the next generation of chefs and provide the winners with the ultimate work experience.

This inaugural competition invites UK catering colleges to nominate their most promising third year students for a place on a 12 month fully funded programme in some of the country's top Michelin star restaurants. Working with chefs Tom Kitchin at The Kitchen Restaurant in Edinburgh, Simon Hulstone at The Elephant Restaurant in Torquay, and Jonray and Peter Sanchez-Iglesias at Casamia in Bristol, three graduate chefs will spend four months in each restaurant to help develop their skills and to set their future career path. Hulstone (pictured) said, as a competition for students, it was one of the best, as it was a whole year of working, plus an opportunity to experience three different cooking styles over a long period. Following paper entries, selected chefs will go forward to a semi-final, with all three chefs and guest mentor Nigel Howarth, chef owner of Northcote, deciding who has what it takes to work in a high pressured kitchen. The final will take place at Westminster Kingsway College in June, where the judging panel consisting of Haworth, Craft Guild of Chefs CEO Martin Bates, and Electrolux' development chef Andy Blakemore, will choose the winners who will start their placement in September. Winning chefs will also be invited to showcase their talents at Taste of London in Regent's Park by cooking on stage in front of a live audience. Electrolux trade marketing manager Vanessa Holloway said: "Electrolux has been proudly supporting professional kitchens for nearly a century, with almost 50% of Michelin star restaurants in Europe using our appliances. It therefore seemed a natural step to support the next generation of chefs at an even earlier stage. "Through our partnerships with incredibly talented chefs, we're well placed to establish the Chef Academy programme, giving young chefs a fantastic insight into a highly competitive yet exhilarating industry."
