Dark Star Brewing Co announces beer cooking competition, seeks charitable causes

West Sussex based Dark Star Brewing Co has announced a cooking with beer competition, to take place at their brewery tap The Partridge, in Partridge Green.

The brewing company has invited chefs to produce a dish cooked with beer, which will be judged on September 27th at the annual green hop festival, Hopfest.

Entrants to the competition are in with the chance of winning their weight in beer, and the opportunity to have their winning dish featured on the menu at the Partridge.

Stephanie Chitty, marketing manager at Dark Star Brew Co., said: “We’re really excited to see what entrants can come up with – they can enter any kind of dish – sweet, savoury, hot or cold – as long as beer has been used to make up the dish – although we don’t mean just supping a pint in the kitchen as they cook!

“The best dish will win a place on the menu at the Partridge, and the award-winning chef will get to take home their weight in beer, direct from the brewery.

“Hopfest will feature some fantastic locally sourced food from the likes of Garlic Wood Farm and the Hungry Guest, so we thought it was the perfect opportunity to look for more gastronomic talent from West Sussex.”

Dark Star also announced this week that its Dark Star Foundation is seeking worthy causes to apply for funding as the foundation aims to give a helping hand to local charities and organisations.

In 2014 the Dark Star Foundation was able to assist: Partridge Green Players, Sussex Sailability, Dame Vera Lynn Trust for Children with Cerebral Palsy, PG Munchkins, Age UK Horsham, Cancer UK and Hurstwood Park Neurosciences Centre.
