The Craft Guild lends a hand with Finishing Touches

The Craft Guild of Chefs is once again proud to be working in association with LACA (Local Authority Caterers Association) on Finishing Touches, LACA’s annual static culinary display salon that takes place at its conference being held at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole from July 6-7.
The Craft Guild has set the criteria for each of the eight categories and leading Guild members will be on the judging panel. The categories are: decorated celebration cake; decorated novelty cake; bread rolls; floral sugarcraft display piece; sandwiches and wraps; cold canapés; petit fours and biscuits. "We are pleased to once again be supporting such a unique event," said Craft Guild CEO Martin Bates. "It's unbelievable the amount of effort and imagination that the contestants put into their designs when competing at Finishing Touches. It's a great opportunity for individuals from the foodservice industry to showcase their talents." Now in its fourth year, the competition is aimed at all levels of staff employed in any aspect of local authority catering capable of producing excellent craft pieces, and provides entrants the opportunity to show off their skills that would not normally be seen during their everyday profession. Last year saw Vicky Scott, who works for school caterer Taylor Shaw in Durham, win the Best in Show prize for the second year running. Her decorated novelty cake depicting a garden festival and imaginative characters wowed the judges.
