City of Glasgow College was acclaimed as the winner of the 2014 Nestlé Toque d’Or at the award ceremony at The Dorchester Hotel in London last night (April 2).

The Scottish team took the top spot for its consistent performance during the four-day grand final against teams from Ayrshire – Ayr Campus, Bradford College, City of Liverpool College, Gloucestershire College – 5 Acres Campus, and Westminster Kingsway College.

In the final all the teams had to undertake a number of challenges that included working across three La Tasca sites to learn more about casual dining and taking on the running of Alan Murchison’s Michelin-starred restaurant L’Ortalan.

Chair of judges James Tanner said the Glasgow team won because they were consistent throughout the competition.

Team member Munro said that winning was “absolutely incredible”: “Because we all got on so well, it didn’t feel like a competition.”

As well as the Toque d’Or trophy, the winning team – Nikola Plhakova, Aoife Munro and Murray McDavid – along with its chef lecturer Gary Maclean wins a chance to go to the world’s most prestigious global culinary competition, Bocuse d’Or, in Lyon in January 2015.
