City College awards Star Chef with their first honorary diploma

Written by: Admin
Master chef and restaurateur, Paul Ainsworth, has been awarded the first ever honorary diploma by his former college.
Paul, who owns and runs 'At Number 6' and 'Rojano's in the Square' in Padstow, was presented with the accolade by Anthony Pitcher OBE, Chairman of the Board of City College Southampton, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the catering and hospitality industry. Catering and hospitality staff at the college described Paul as an 'inspiration' to their current students, highlighting how he has built a very successful business for himself since completing his studies. Paul showed drive and commitment during his time at City College studying catering and hospitality. Having learnt the skills of his trade he went on to work with some of the most respected figures of contemporary cuisine, including Gary Rhodes and Gordon Ramsay. After completing his time in London under some of the biggest names in the business he went on to set up two restaurants in Padstow. He was invited to take part in the BBC2 TV series 'Great British Menu', where, competing against some of the nation's top chefs, he won the regional heats to represent the South West. Lindsey Noble, Principal and CEO of City College, said: "We are delighted to award Paul with our first ever honorary diploma. He is an outstanding ambassador for our college. He has taken the skills learnt during his time here and used them to build a highly successful career and blossoming business for himself. Paul is a true inspiration to our students." While visiting the college to receive his honorary diploma Paul took time out to meet with catering and hospitality students working in the new £34m hub building, which features its own commercial kitchens and restaurants. He said: "My time spent at City College is the reason I'm where I am now. I still use the knowledge and skills I learnt here today and I can't thank the college enough for what it's done for me. "I am very proud and overwhelmed to receive this honorary diploma and it will take pride of place in my restaurant." Paul is one of many successful City College graduates: each year the College provides apprenticeships and vocational training to thousands of students of all ages, who go on to have successful careers in their chosen fields.
