Chef owner Gary Usher launches £200,000 Kickstarter campaign to open fourth restaurant in Liverpool

Gary Usher, chef owner of three restaurants in the north west of England, has launched a £200,000 crowdfunding campaign through Kickstarter to open a fourth restaurant, Wreckfish, in Liverpool city centre.

If the campaign is successful, it will be the largest amount raised for a restaurant in the UK by Kickstarter and the restaurant will open in September 2017.

Usher said: “It’s always been our hope to bring humble, honest food to neighbourhoods throughout the region - it’s what we did with Sticky and it’s what works so well for us.

“Liverpool holds a special place in my heart, having worked just down the street from where Wreckfish is now. The response to the pop up we held earlier this year was amazing and made it obvious that this is what people want.”

The crowdfunding launch comes after Usher held a weeklong pop up in February, where customers paid what they thought the meal was worth, at the derelict building in Ropewalks, Liverpool, where Wreckfish is set to open permanently.

Meal vouchers, an initiation to the Wreckfish launch party and private dining and restaurant hire are among the pledges for the campaign.

The campaign will be Usher’s third after successfully raising enough money to open Burnt Truffle on in Heswall on The Wirral, and most recently Hispi in Didsbury, Manchester.

The Wreckfish menu will include signature dishes from Usher’s other three restaurants with the addition of brunch, which will be served from 10am on the weekends.
