British Turkey Awards 2013 - now open for entries

Written by: Admin
Foodservice Operator of the Year is one of the new categories in an expanded British Turkey Awards 2013 competition, which is now open for entries.

The 17th edition of the annual awards for the best British turkey products comprises 12 carefully selected categories – including retail and foodservice sectors.

Entries are expected to showcase the best in convenience, innovation and range of British turkey cuts on offer for Christmas and all-year-round consumption.

An independent panel of judges including consumers, a consultant chef, plus journalists from food and catering magazines will be tasked with scrutinising the products against set criteria such as taste, appearance, quality, packaging and value for money.

The Retailer of the Year category, last year won by Asda for the third year in a row, gives retailers the opportunity to present their entire range of turkey cuts on sale throughout the year.

The Student Chef of the Year competition will also be highlighted with an award, with young chefs from colleges nationwide competing to create the best turkey meal to be served at The Savoy, during the ceremony on September 19th.

New for 2013 is the Foodservice Operator of the Year, and the Best Dietitian Recipe category which will feature turkey recipes developed and recommended by professional dietitians to their patients and clients.

Nicola Rye, chair of the British Turkey Federation’s Publicity and Marketing committee said: “We are really looking forward to this year’s awards and we hope it will be the most exciting to date.

“Consumers already have a fantastic wide range of versatile and tasty British turkey products available to them, so we are looking forward to seeing what UK producers have developed this year.

“And with the introduction of new categories we hope to see even more great ways to serve turkey, from across the whole industry.”
