Best British Roast Dinner title awarded to West London pub

The Truscott Arms in Maida Vale has beaten off competition from more than 300 contestants to win the title of Best British Roast Dinner 2014.

The pub’s Sunday roast impressed mystery diners with its fine quality, locally sourced ingredients and seasonal produce, as well as the abundance of honey roasted root vegetables, rosemary and garlic roast potatoes and flavoursome gravy.

Chris Brown, channel category manager at Unilever Food Solutions, organiser of British Roast Dinner Week, commented: “The standard of entries was exceptionally high this year, but it’s fair to say The Truscott Arms gave the rest of the competition a bit of a roasting. The food was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented, and there were some lovely creative flourishes, including offering smoked and braised lamb, and pulled pork and loin.

“As for the gravy – which more than 60% of consumers say is vital for the perfect roast – it was packed full of flavour, with different gravies and sauces for each meat on offer.”

Andrew Fishwick, owner of The Truscott Arms, said: “We’re thrilled to have won. Roast dinners are a key part of our menu, and to be crowned the winner of this competition is fantastic. The whole team is delighted and now we have even more reason to serve our roasts with pride.”

The Truscott Arms was awarded the title today (Monday, October 6) following British Roast Dinner Week 2014, an annual event that celebrates this favourite pub meal and encourages pubs, restaurants, hotels and staff canteens to serve roasts every day. British Roast Dinner Week is sponsored by Unilever’s brand Knorr and supported by its Colman’s brand.
