The British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA) and the All Party Parliamentary Beer Group (APPG) have announced that they have received over 100 nominations from local MPs for the new Pub Chef of the Year Award, which was launched in partnership with Nestlé Professional earlier this year.

The 100th entry was received from Congleton MP Fiona Bruce, who nominated pub chefs Sam Smith and Martin Williams from The Rising Sun Country Pub & Dining in Scholar Green Village, Congleton.

Brigid Simmonds, Chief Executive of the BBPA, said: “We are delighted that so many Members of Parliament have engaged with the Pub Chef of the Year competition.

“It is testament to the quality of pub food today that so many chefs from all corners of the country have been put forward for this new award. I am looking forward to the next stage of the competition and ultimately to trying some of the excellent food on offer.”

The entries received so far will be judged by a panel of industry experts including TV guest chef presenter and former Michelin Star holder, Paul Merrett. Six finalists will proceed to a cook off event in London in January. The winner will be crowned on 23rd February during an award ceremony held at the House of Commons.
