September - October 2015: Welcome

Written by: Admin
Welcome to the latest edition of Stockpot. I do hope you’ve been enjoying the summer. I say summer, but what with dodging the showers, hail storms and the sudden drop in temperature I’m beginning to wonder.

The last eight weeks has been a busy time for the Craft Guild with the National Chef of the Year semi-finalists battling it out for a place in the final eight and the Young National Chef of the Year finalists being selected from competitions around the country. Both competitions will come to a thrilling climax at the Restaurant Show in October, so do come along and show your support.

Also coming to fruition are the Graduate Awards, with eager young chefs challenging themselves to join the roll call of the great and the good.

As newly appointed director of operations at the Craft Guild, Andrew Green has found himself challenged with working his way though an ever-growing list of wants, wishes and tasks. One of the most important ones was to initiate the final stages of the transition back to head office of the Craft Guild of Chefs Membership, which on 1 October will be winging its way back to its rightful place in Kew.

On hand to help with this transition is new recruit Faye who joins us following the departure of our secretary Franciska who returns to Hungary with fond thanks and best wishes. Faye has the necessary skillset to assist in managing the change, but more importantly to prevent Andrew from tearing his hair out.

Also next month, 21 October brings us to the last official Golden event of the year with our Dining Through the Decades-themed celebratory banquet. Our Royal patron, the Countess of Wessex, will be attending and with such an unusual venue in the Globe, along with excellent food and wines, you really don’t want to miss out on the limited tickets available.

Christopher Basten
National Chairman
