Hospitality salaries ‘soar’ by 38% in November

06/12/2018 - 08:46
It’s good news for hospitality workers this month, as new data reveals that salaries hit a “12-month high” in November up 38% year-on-year.

The sector came in first place of the 10 sectors for securing a pay rise right now (+38%), followed by agriculture (+28%) and customer services in third place (+8%).

This comes from online job site CV-Library, which said that hospitality was one of the nation’s key industries to see “impressive hikes” in advertised salaries last month.

Founder and managing director Lee Biggins said: “This staggering increase in salaries is a direct result of the on-going struggles that many businesses are currently facing.

“On-going economic uncertainty, coupled with the growing skills gap, is making it difficult to entice candidates away from their current positions.

“As such, it’s clear from the data that organisations in the hospitality sector are pulling out all the stops to secure the top talent.”

However, while employers continue to advertise for jobs ahead of the New Year (vacancies up +7% year-on-year), the company warns that candidates “remain cautious” with application rates dropping by -5.2%.

Biggins added: “The data reveals that candidate confidence has taken a knock since this time last year and this could be the driving force behind last month’s jump in salaries.

“It is, however, good to see that businesses are still advertising their vacancies and with many professionals adopting the ‘New Year, new me’ mantra in January, plus the impressive pay packets currently on offer, (CV-Library) expects to see application rates picking back up as we enter 2019.”
